PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the green light for a five-storey building housing a business “incubator” and providing 100 new jobs.
The 50,000 sq ft development looks set to be the first part of the town’s £190 million Stadium Quarter between the bus interchange and Warrington Wolves’ stadium.
It will have a café on the ground floor and offices and research and development facilities on the upper floors.
Members of the borough council’s planning committee unanimously approved the scheme, together with an extension of time for a temporary car park at the junction of Winwick Road and Tanners Lane.
Approval for this would have expired next year, but the new approval will allow it continue while the council assesses its acceptability in the light of changing circumstances in the area.
The incubator building will occupy the site of the now demolished Dallam Centre, in Dallam Lane.
Plans have been submitted by a partnership between the borough council and Liverpool-based developers Iliad.
They will deliver a modern, high quality workplace specifically aimed at start-up businesses.
It is considered ideal because it is within walking distance of the town centre, the bus station and Warrington Central railway station.
The site is bounded by the Bewsey Street Conservation Area, the Winwick Street Conservation Area.
Most large buildings in the vicinity are finished in Victorian and post-Victorian brick and cream coloured stone
The type of jobs involved is seen as of special importance as they will help keep talented, educated people within Warrington.
