MEMBERS of the community rallied round after arsonists attacked Lymm’s Ravenbank Primary School.
Fire crews were called to the school to find a timber outbuilding at the rear of the Pepper Street school well alight.
Staff at Naturegarten, the on-site pre school, raised the alarm and firefighters quickly had the situation under control.
Pupils were back at school as normal the following morning.
Lymm Round Table stepped in with a prompt £500 donation towards the cost of damaged play equipment.
Member Rich Storey said: “As soon as we heard what had happened at Ravenbank we quickly rallied round and decided an immediate donation was necessary – hopefully it will go some way to recoup what has been lost.”
New head teacher Lesley Sweeney said the whole school community had offered support to minimise disruption.
“The children have been brilliant. They have used the opportunity to get out their fire hoses and hard hats, replicating the bravery of our emergency services.
“The older children have also written some emotive and hard hitting news reports based on a real life event.”
Mrs Sweeney thanked everyone who had rallied round to help. The fire would give the school an opportunity to rethink how the area where the fire was could be used and made better.
She added: “I would never have anticipated that a serious fire incident would be one of the challenges that I would have to face during my first few weeks at Ravenbank, however it has certainly demonstrated at first hand what a special community I have joined.”
