Family escapes from smoke-filled house

THE occupants of a house at Warrington escaped from their smoke-filled home early today after being alerted by a smoke alarm.
Fire crews were called to the house, in Southworth Lane, Winwick shortly before 4am and found a severe fire in the kitchen.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze with a hosereel jet and a ventilation unit was then used to clear smoke from the property.
Cause of the blaze was a fault on a cooker in the kitchen.
Smoke alarms were activated, alerting the family and enabling them to leave the building safely.
