FORMER Warrington Wolves prop Mike Cooper was re-united with his former team mates during a joint training session at his new club, NRL side St George Illawarra Dragons.
Mike welcomed his friends and former team mates down for a training session as the Wolves continue their preparation for the 2014 season on camp in Australia.
Mike (pictured right) said: “We did a bit extra on our normal session. We did 20 minutes conditioning, two 20 minute half games – it was meant to be grab but it went a bit full contact for the most part – and we then finished with some conditioning. It was a good hit-out as Warrington are a really good side.
“They (Wolves) are a quality attacking side so it was good for our defence. It was the first time we’d run as a team and it went pretty well. I reckon both teams got a lot out of it. They’ll be ready to play in two or three week’s time when the Super League season starts. We’ve got a few more weeks to go yet. They like it down here and are pretty jealous of where I’m living and the beaches we’ve got here. It’s a lot different to the north west of England at the minute!”
Chris Hill reiterated the intensity of the session. “It was a bit warm to say the least. It was a good test for the boys which is what we’ve come over to do – improve our skills – and hopefully gave St George something to work on and ourselves ready for the new season when we get back.”
Wolves’ football manager Karl Fitzpatrick emphasised the benefits to training sessions such as this one with the Dragons.
“The main theme of the camp is to train with a number of NRL teams. It’s one of the best competitions in the world. Having our players rubbing shoulders with some of the best players and showing they can match them in all divisions is going to be a great boost for the upcoming season.”
