NHS photo competition

WARRINGTON NHS is calling for real people living with health conditions, illnesses and disabilities to take part in a photo competition.
The Warrington Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the NHS body responsible for planning and buying health services for the people of Warrington, is looking for people to tell their stories through images that show everyday life.
A small number of entries have so far been received with one young person, a 16-year-old from Poplars and Hulme, entering a picture of his grandfathers house – a light in the dark – an image that reflects his grandfather’s life living with diabetes.
He said: “My grandfather has diabetes. The thing that inspires me is that he hasn’t let this affect his life, his hobbies, and most of all his happiness and attitude towards life. Diabetes is obviously a life changing thing and can turn very serious, very quickly.
“My mum once asked him his dream, and he said he wants to travel the world, and diabetes hasn’t changed that dream for him, my granddad and his wife are still going through that dream. They must go on holiday at least four times a year! He is such an inspiration to me and I love him very much!”
Dr Andy Davies, local GP and Chair of Warrington CCG, said: “Thousands of people in Warrington are living with disabilities, illnesses and long-term health conditions such as diabetes but go about their daily lives just the same as anyone else. We want to see photographs that show these people living their lives and images that represent everyday life. Entries can be happy, sad, fun – anything that reflects something of the reality of life for yourself or someone close to you.”
The competition is open to Warrington residents only and will close at midnight on 28 February 2014. Entries will then be shortlisted and the winners announced.
Submitted photographs may be used in future Warrington CCG publicity material, in a public exhibition display, online, in the local press, and at future CCG public events.
Prizes on offer for the winners include a 12 month fitness membership from LiveWire and a £50 voucher from Culture Warrington, all kindly donated.
Entries should be emailed to [email protected] to include the entrant’s contact details and a brief description of the photo description.
