Artist's virtual tour of a village

A SOLO exhibition by Lymm artist Colin Grimes is attracting much attention at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery.
The major theme underlying his paintings is reflected images – and 20 of the 30 paintings on show take the viewer on a journey around Lymm villages via reflections in shop windows.
Mr Grimes was head of art for 25 yearsat Lymm High School and knows the village well.
Influenced by an exhibition of Canaletto’s paintings of Venice at the Queen’s Gallery in London, where walking through the gallery was a virtual trip down the Grand Canal, Mr Grimes has displayed his paintings as a virtual walk through Lymm.
Some of the pictures have acquired archive value as the shops featured have changed hands since they were painted.
A parallel series of paintings reflects life in other countries where people are using public transport.
The exhibition runs until February 22.
Mr Grimes has worked with student and adult groups and organized art study tours throughout Europe, the USA and Russia. He has exhibited his works in the UK and in San Giovanni Valdarno, near Florence and in West Palm Beach, in Florida.
