Drivers warned to expect delays

MOTORISTS have been warned to expect hold-ups on the A49 Winwick Road at Warrington today.
National Grid has started emergency works on the main gas line under the inside lane of the A49 outside the Tesco garage.
It is expected the work will take about a week.
At present, the left hand turn into Hawleys Lane can be used – but drivers should check for the latest information about possible delay on the Variable Message Signs (VMS) on the route.

  1. It’s been chaotic this evening. One lane instead of two northbound at the new lights, reducing the junction capacity from 1200 vehicles an hour to 900. Queues right back to Cockhedge; from Folly Lane people tried Longshaw St / Hawleys Lane – the system couldn’t give more priority to them rather than Winwick Road so it was taking two hours for people to get out of Alban retail park.

As the works may last all week, avoiding Winwick Road northbound is, to say the least, recommended, especially in the evening peak.
