Come clean on HS2 says MP

WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones is calling on the Government to come clean about the real cost of the HS2 spur which is planned to pass through Warrington.
The MP (pictured) was speaking after the Government answered her Parliamentary question about the cost of the Winterbottom to Bamfurlong section of the line by giving only the construction costs of £360m.
She said: “ Everyone knows that the true costs of the line will be far more than that.
“Unless the Government is prepared to admit that the costs will include compensation for property owners, the loss of jobs, for example, at the Taylor Business Park, loss of business rates and damage to local businesses, then any estimate they make of the supposed benefits of the line are fatally flawed.
“ The current route for HS2 offers nothing to Warrington as the council and many others have recognised. It’s time for the Government to listen to local people and abandon this flawed plan.”
