Mortgage guru's TV debut

A WARRINGTON mortgage advisor is to make her TV debut alongside the UK’s most famous money saver.
Alison Gibson from Ascot Mortgages was invited to appear on the Martin Lewis Money Show.
With almost 40 years of financial services experience, she was chosen by the production team to explain how a new government scheme can help both first time buyers and home owners.
Alison, who is a director of the ‘whole of market’ mortgage brokers, with their head offices on the Gemini business park, said: “I’ve always been interested in what Martin Lewis has to say and it was a great privilege to be featured on his television show.
“I’m a keen money saver – both in my personal life and for my clients.”
On the ITV1 programme, which is due to air at 8pm on Friday 24 January, Alison can be seen advising some young first time buyers.
“The couple only had a 5pc deposit,” she said, “and were interested in knowing what deals were available under the second phase of Help to Buy.
“I was able to explain all of this to them and in addition present them with the 95% deals available outside of the scheme, which it turned out, were preferential.”
Speaking of her first appearance in front of the camera, Alison said: “The film crew made me feel very relaxed.
“I focused all my attention on talking to and listening to the clients’ requirements and as a result, was able to ignore what was going on in the background. The experience just felt very natural.”
Alison, from Great Sankey, set up Ascot Mortgages in 2008 with her son Kevin. It’s a true family business as husband Dave is company secretary and acts as a consultant to the business.
The second phase of Help to Buy is available to both first-time buyers and existing home owners who are considering properties worth up to £600,000. Borrowers will still need a 5pc deposit. Under the scheme, a Government guarantee for the lender makes high LTV (loan-to-value) mortgages less risky – passing on cheaper rates for customers.
