Carl prepares for epic charity challenge

FORMER Culcheth High School pupil Carl Rawes is preparing to take on an epic 2186-mile challenge in the USA to raise money for charity.
Carl will cross the Appalachian Mountain Trail, which starts in Georgia, and passes through 14 states before finishing in Baxter Peak Maine, with the total ascent the equivalent to climbing Everest 16 times.
He will start the trek in late March in winter conditions and is aiming to walk between 20 and 22 miles each day, carrying his kit and sleeping under canvas each night before finishing at the end of July.
The trek will also raise funds and awareness for two charities, Reverse Rett and The Royal British Legion. Reverse Rett is a charity started by another former fellow Culcheth High pupil Andy Stevenson to raise vital research funds to find a cure for the childhood neurological condition that affects his daughter Beth.
An experienced adventurer, Carl has completed many challenges including UK Coast to Coast, Camino de Santiago, Tour of Mont Blanc and the Welsh 15 Peaks events and raising over £20,000 for charities over the years.
Carl will be posting Twitter updates on his trek using @carlrawes and accepting donations at: https://www.justgiving.com/teams/carlsappalachiantrail
