Planners reject golf driving range

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have thrown out proposals for a golf driving range on Green Belt land – for the second time in six months.
Members of the borough council’s development management committee rejected the scheme for land between Joy Lane and Wrights Lane, Burtonwood.
Among objectors to the scheme were the leader of the council, Cllr Terry O’Neill and a former leader, Cllr John Joyce, who both represent the Burtonwood area.
There were also objections from five nearby residents.
Cllr Jeff Richards told the committee he could see no reason to alter the previous decision to refuse the application.
Cllr Sheila Woodyatt said the development would be inappropriate in an important piece of Green Belt which preserved an open area between the Omega development site and Burtonwood village.
She also thought a proposed building on the was inappropriate.
Members heard there were no plans to have external lighting at the driving range and expressed doubts about whether this would affect the viability of the proposal.
