Lingley Mere backs sustainable travel

WARRINGTON’S Lingley Mere business park is continuing to support sustainable travel in Warrington, after investing in upgrades to its infrastructure and transportation links.
A new bus stop – linking to the recently introduced Connect 17 orbital bus route – will be built on the development, incorporating both a new crossing and enhanced pedestrian safety features, including better lighting and pavement access.
The improvements tie in with other developments throughout the borough, as part of the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). The £4.65 million fund was awarded to Warrington Borough Council and its partners in 2012 to help establish the “Warrington Sustainable Travel Triangle” – a scheme that aims to cut car use in the region and support the local economy, by encouraging sustainable and low carbon travel between the key employment, retail and residential areas.
Lingley Mere estates manager Alan Robinson said: “With more than 3,000 people working for tenants of Lingley Mere Business Park, we are committed to investing in infrastructure that meets the needs of
employees.
“Improved transportation links and pedestrian safety features not only encourages individuals to explore sustainable travel methods, but they ensure these alternatives are safer and more convenient for those already
making use of them.”
In addition to building a new bus stop, the Lingley Mere Management Company – run by joint venture partners Muse Developments and United Utilities – has invested in new lighting to illuminate the business park’s main entrance and two additional pedestrian crossings. All pedestrian crossings within the development have been upgraded in preparation for winter, including being repainted to increase visibility with the installation of new signage.
Robin Uttley, head of commercial property at United Utilities, said: “Warrington commuters are increasingly seeking out green travel options. The Lingley Mere Management Company is focused on making these methods as attractive and accessible as possible, in order to help reduce traffic congestion and promote sustainable transportation in the region.”
