Park Friends launch Facebook site

A NEW Facebook site has been launched which will enable residents to provide feedback on the parks of Poulton North, including Enfield Park, Parkfields Park, Longbarn Park (known as the Brick Pits) and also Peel Hall Park.
The site has been set up by the Friends of Poulton North Parks and can be found at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Warrington-Nature-Conservation-Forum/110886079024465#!/pages/Friends-of-Poulton-North-Parks/188253471376796
Cllr Geoff Settle said: “Ever since I have lived in Cinnamon Brow I have visited Enfield Park almost on a daily basis, often to walk the dog, pick-up litter or look at the wildlife.
“When I used to run a lot it was great to incorporate the other parks in my training runs.
“Unfortunately during that 30 year period I have noticed them deteriorate but 12 people have taken up my offer of free litter-pickers. They are doing regular litter-picks and we have filled up many hundreds of carrier bags of rubbish in local parks. This offer is still open so please let me know if you want to take part.”
The parks all used to have features that made them unique – none more so than Parkfields Park with its ring of stones, giant hand and moss maize. However they have all suffered from decay, vandalism and simple lack of maintenance.
Cllr Settle said: “I have spent the last three years as a member of the Friends of Peel Hall Park and I have seen what can be achieved. Having said this it is not easy and the Friends need to be well organised, determined and prepared for a great deal of hard work and at times setbacks and problems.”
The new Facebook site is an attempt to co-ordinate such action throughout Poulton North and it is hoped that groups of Friends will be formed for each park and that they will use the site to share ideas and fund raising activities.

  1. Thanks Gary for publicising this concept, there is work in the BIG three parks taking place (Bank, Victoria and Sankey Valley) which is great but I don’t want our local parks in Poulton North to be left out in the cold. If this site can bring together people who are eager to have a go then hopefully that will be a good thing for the area.
