WARRINGTON Town extended their unbeaten league run to 16 games with a 3-2 win over Mossley at the HG Driver Recruitment Stadium to stay five points clear at the top of the table.
After a blistering start Warrington took the lead when a Scott Metcalfe cross was hammered in off the underside of the bar by leading goal scorer Ben Wharton (top) after seven minutes.
Warrington created a number of other chances but couldn’t score and then the visitors were on level terms from their first attack and shot when the lively Andy Keogh fired home on 15 minutes.
But Warrington continued to play some flowing football and were eventually rewarded when Ciaran Kilheeney (pictured right) slotted the ball home from 10 yards out to make it 2-1 on the half hour.
Mossley were back on level terms just before the break when Keogh again found the back of the net to make it 2-2 at half time.
Warrington took the lead for the third time on 60 minutes when Kilheeney got his second shortly after Metcalfe had blasted a free kick over the bar.
In a nervy final quarter Mossley pushed for an equaliser but the Warrington defence stood firm and Town always looked dangerous on the break through man-of-the-match Metcalfe and striker Aaron Bowen.
All eyes turn to Tuesday evening now when second placed and unbeaten Curzon Ashton are in town, kick off 7.45pm.
