Dining out at the Bear’s Paw

THE cold winter nights are well and truly with us again – and there’s no warmer, cosy and friendly place to eat out than the Bear’s Paw at High Legh.
We have been regular visitors to this comfortable, traditional inn over the years and still find ourselves drawn back again and again. Mine hosts Jason and Melanie Craig and their friendly team always provide a warm welcome – and superb food.
The restaurant is small but its reputation is huge, so it’s advisable to book in advance whenever you visit. It has a wonderful, intimate atmosphere yet at the same time is quite capable of coping with quite large parties.
But of course the really important thing is what’s on the table and here the Bear’s Paw never fails to please.
On our most recent visit our party was able to choose a traditional roast turkey dinner, rump steak with chips and seasonal vegetables and the lightly battered cod and chips which have become famous among regulars. After, of course, some appetising starters including carrot and coriander soup, breaded mushrooms and duck spring rolls.
Afterwards, for those capable of tackling more, there was a wide range of desserts.
The whole meal was superb, the service excellent and the whole experience relaxing and enjoyable. The menu offered many other choices, supplemented by a specials board which changes regularly. It would be an awkward customer indeed who could not find something to their taste!
An impressive wine list and well-stocked bar ensure there is a wide range of drinks on offer to complement the meal.
