WARRINGTON’S bus strike is over after board members and management at Network Warrington and union members reached an amicable agreement earlier today (Sunday).
Strike action, planned for this Wednesday, November 13 to Friday November 15 has now been called off.
A ballot was held this morning of all Unite members to accept the deal which had been offered and go back to work – 80% voted for acceptance and 20% against out of about 85% of union members who voted.
In a statement Network Warrington’s Board and Management Team said they were pleased to have reached an amicable agreement with Unite the Union members and that the dispute has now been resolved.
Therefore, all bus services will run as normal this week and there are no plans for any future industrial action.
Chairman Maureen Banner said:” Now the dispute has been settled, the board, along with all our employees, will be focusing on our core business which as a municipal bus company is serving the people of Warrington”
Ann Marie Slavin, Interim MD added:“With the dispute having been resolved, our focus is now on developing the business over the next 12 months. As a Council owned Bus Company our aim is to provide an efficient, quality bus service to the people of Warrington and it is important that we can do this in a sustainable manner. We feel confident that this objective can be achieved.”
Network Warrington would like to thank all customers for their patience, support and understanding during this difficult period.
The dispute broke out following a 12 month pay freeze due to a difficult trading period due to decreased passenger numbers, as well as increased fuel prices.
The settlement is believed to include a £100 pay bonus for Christmas.
