AFTER capturing the hearts of Warrington with their thrilling performance aganst World Champions New Zealand in their opening game in the Rugby League World Cup at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, Samoa could be heading back to town for a quarter-final showdown with Fiji.
Warrington based Samoa beat Papua New Guinea 38-4 at Hull KR on Monday night and unless PNG pull off a major shock and defeat New Zealand in Leeds on Friday, Samoa are likely to face either Fiji or England at Warrington or Wigan in the last eight on the weekend of Saturday/Sunday November 16/17.
A win against France in Perpignan next Monday would see them back at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on the Sunday to face Fiji while defeat would see them more likely to face England in the quarter finals at the DW Stadium on the Saturday.
Meanwhile Warrington Wolves new full back from Gold Coast Matt Russell is relishing the challenge of playing for the Wolves next season.
Matt is busy preparing for Scotland’s World Cup clash with USA at Salford tomorrow (Thursday) and said: “I am really looking forward to joining up with the Wolves.
“Being involved in the World Cup is a great experience – but I can’t wait to be playing for Warrington next year.”
