A SECOND half penalty save from young goal keeper Josh Cook helped Warrington Town to a 1-0 win in their FA Cup replay at New Mills.
Cook (pictured right) produced an outstanding double save midway through the second half as Warrington produced a battling performance to progress to the 2nd qualifing round, where they will face the winners of the Bamber Bridge v Ossett Town replay.
Jay McCarten (pictured left and above) gave Town a slender 1-0 lead in the first half after producing the finishing touch during a goal mouth scramble after 25 minutes.
Ciaran Kilheeney had a great chance to extend the lead early in the second half but glanced his effort just wide of the post.
Despite having the majority of possession the home side couldn’t find a way through Warrington’s outstanding defence, which was superbly marshalled by Craig Robinson.
When the home side were awarded a penalty for hand ball midway through the half Cook produced a fine diving save at full stretch and was then quick to his feet to make a double save to keep the ball out.
The result saw Warrington extend their unbeaten run to eight games as they prepare to return to league action at Wakefield on Saturday.
