WARRINGTON Wolves ran wild as they hammered London Broncos 82-10 at the Priestfield Stadium in Gillingham, with Wolves boss Tony Smith heaping praise on the in form Stefan Ratchford.
Ratchford who scored a try and kicked eleven goals and Smith believes the half-back come full-back could become an England regular following another breath taking display, with unsung hero Simon Grix grabbing a hat-trick in the closing 10 minutes.
Ratchford (pictured right) ran the show tearing the rock-bottom Broncos apart with his pace, as the Broncos took the game on the road to Kent and suffered their worst ever “home” defeat!
The only surprise was that it took Warrington nine minutes to score their first try as Chris Hill broke through tackles easily to cross at the posts.
Warrington extended their lead when Joel Monaghan went over after Lee Briers’ kick caused chaos in the Broncos defence.
Next over was Michael Monaghan who twisted and turned to lunge over from close range on 27 minutes followed by Richie Myler who broke through a series of weak tackles to squeeze over by the sticks.
Michael Monaghan claimed his second try just before the interval after breaking more soft defence to touch down.
The Broncos did manage to get on the board when Kieran Dixon took a long pass from Luke Dorn to cross in the corner in the 39th minute.
It took just two minutes after the break for the Warrington machine to kick into gear as Myler ran in his second after a flowing move that involved Brett Hodgson and Briers and minutes later Ben Westwood got in on the act, charging over after a scorching break by Ratchford.
As the floodgates opened Ryan Atkins powered over for Warrington’s eighth try in the 49th minute.Seven minutes later Chris Riley twisted over for try number nine in the corner.
The Wolves kept piling on the points with Ratchford racing home in the 58th minute before Atkins added his second after another Ratchford break.
London did manage a further consolation try, Wolves loanee James Mendeika touching down a clever Witt kick but normal service was resumed when Grix touched down on 71 minutes and added a second score moments later when he clutched a Briers kick to burst over in the corner.
Micky Higham took a pass from Ratchford to stroll over for try number 14 with Grix claiming his 10 minute hat-trick when he raced clear in the final seconds.
After the game Wolves boss Smith sang the praises of Ratchford saying: “Stefan is a super player – a terrific talent. He seems to pop up in positions all over the field and he can slot in easily anywhere.
“I know there are people calling for him to make the England side and I think he will if he keeps performing like that.
“He has to be patient and consistent and if he does I am sure he will force his way in.”
