A NEW bus service has been launched to provide a link between residential areas and places of work and education in north Warrington.
Connect17 connects the town centre with Lingley Mere, Gemini, Orford Park, Warrington Collegiate, University of Chester and Birchwood Business Park, and will benefit from six brand new Optare Versa buses, all of which will feature audio-visual information systems.
Maureen Banner, Network Warrington chairman said: “This new service is designed to meet stakeholders’ needs. We want to encourage people to use our buses, which they will find modern, clean, safe and dependable.”
Network Warrington teamed up with Warrington Borough Council to provide the service after the council made a successful bid to the Department for Transport’s Local Sustainable Transport Fund in 2012.
Cllr Linda Dirir, executive board member for highways, transportation and climate change at the council, said: “This is the culmination of a lot of hard work, from making the Local Sustainable Transport Fund bid, to planning the service, and in making sure that it is fit for purpose. We are very pleased to be working in partnership with Network Warrington in ensuring that people have more options to travel by bus to key employment areas in the north of the town.”
