WELL-known ghost story writer and charity champion Wally Barnes, who died aged 88, will be fondly remembered at his funeral on Friday at Warrington Crematorium.
The service will be at 10.20am and all are welcome.
Wally, from Bewsey, Warrington, wrote a collection of books over the years in which he claimed Warrington was “the most ghost infested town in the country”.
He also wrote a book about the infamous “Battle of Burtonwood” when American troops clashed with allies.
He was a popular speaker entertaining adults and children throughout the town and was extremely proud of his time as a chef in the Royal Parachute Regiment.
His daughter Karol Rogers said life in the family home was always interesting and he often told stories and encouraged people to write. He was so popular that one local man formed a Wally Barnes Appreciation Society.
Wally, of Delves Avenue, was married to Winnie and the couple have three children Karol, Wally and Edward.
Wally was also well known locally for fundraising and raised money for a variety of local causes.
He died on March 31 after being taken ill while staying with family in Wales.
