Disappointing defeat for Town

WARRINGTON Town travelled to lowly Prescot Cables and produced their worst performance of the season as they went down 3-1 just three days after seeing their play off chances disappear with a home defeat to Skelmersdale.
Warrington Town manager Joey Dunn made six changes to the starting line up from the previous game, with Mike Duffy, Adam Jukes, Dale Wright, Gavin Salmon, Craig Davies and Anthony Hickey being given a starting berth, in what was an attempt to freshen up the team.
But Town fell behind in the 8th minute, when former Warrington Town striker Lee Madin found space outside the box to lob Paul Pritchard and into the empty net.
Just a minute later, Town had a great chance to equalise, striker Gavin Salmon picking up Alan Collins flick on, only to miskick and shoot off target. Three minutes later, the same player had another chance to equalise, once again miskicking on the bobbly surface, before Davies shot through a packed penalty area, only to see his shot go straight at former Town keeper Mike Langley. Despite Warrington having the majority of the possession, they never managed to seriosuly test Langley, despite half chances for Louis Corrigan and Salmon. Things went from bad to worse for Town when the home side were awarded a penalty, which Madin once again coolly dispatched, his fourth goal against Town this season, to give the home side an undeserved two goal lead.
On the stroke of half time, Prescot almost went further ahead, when midfielder John Lawless, saw his rising drive go narrowly over the cross bar.
The second half began with neither side creating much in terms of chances on goal, the game mainly being played in the midfield, indeed it took until the 67th minute for a meaningful chance for either side, when Davies saw his angled drive well saved by Langley, who go this fingertips to the ball to divert it away from the goal.
After this Town had their best spell of the game, taking control of possession, and pushing forward looking to get into the game, and that pressure told with 13 minutes to go, when Langley could only palm away Dale Wright’s powerful drive, straight into the path of the on rushing Collins, who made no mistake in bring Town back into the game.
Once again, while pushing for a goal, Town were hit with the sucker punch, when striker Liam Pearson was given time and space in the box to head home a corner from close range. Town tried to get back into the game, and Collins saw his shot saved by Langley, as time ran out.
Warrington will have to pull their socks up at Leigh on Saturday and on Easter Monday when they entertain Salford at Cantilever Park, if they want to hold on to 6th spot in the table.
