Mail distribution centre for Omega

1

DETAILED plans for a major mail distribution centre employing more than 380 people on the Omega development site at Warrington are to be put to the borough’s development management committee next week.
A single building of about 14,500 square metres is proposed don a 7.45 hectare portion of the Omega North site.
There would also be a two-storey office building and parking for 275 cars and 262 good vehicles.
The centre would operate on a seven day continuous cycle.
Planning officers, who are recommending the scheme be approved, say the large building, clad in metal panels typically light grey in colour, would be visible from the M62 but would not be unduly intrusive.
As only the second unit to be built on Omega North – plans for another distribution centre were approved earlier this year – it would seek to maintain the high quality of external appearance appropriate to its position and for the development as a whole.
Further units of similar function and quality were expected to follow in line with the masterplan for the area which was given outline approval in 2007.
Landscaping and planting was proposed to help screen and soften views from the countryside to the north and from the direction of Burtonwood village.
Any noise emanating from the site would be largely masked by the high noise levels from the adjacent M62.
In the long term, dwellings to the north of Omega would benefit from reduced noise levels because of the construction of other large buildings on Omega North.
Some increase in “sky glow” was inevitable, but this could be minimised by good lighting design practice.

  1. Not sure if two sources of noise mask each other or just increase the effect – I. assume that this will be a 24 hour operation.i trust that the traffic impact of a site with a parking capacity for nearly 300 goods vehicles plus cars has been considered with their usual efficiency by our glorious well-respected planning department who have , so desevedly, earned the respect of the public.
