Skills workshops look to the future

A SERIES of workshops will look at the skills available in Warrington and what skills are needed for the town in the future.
Those involved in business, the community, education and skills will be invited to have their say to Warrington Skills Commission.
During its first phase, which runs untill January, the commission is focussing on gathering information and views about current and future local skills needs.
Workshops are taking place in the next few weeks for business, education and skills sectors. There will also be a public meeting in December for organisations and individuals to get involved and present information to the commission.
A report on the findings will be published early next year.
Professor Steven Broomhead (pictured), interim chief executive at the borough council, said: “Whether you’re a business struggling to recruit people with the right skills or a skills provider trying to develop appropriate course and development opportunities, share your experiences and contribute to this important debate.
“We need to ensure that Warrington continues to grow and remain a vibrant and prosperous town which will offer real opportunities for our local businesses and workforce.”
Cllr Terry O’Neill, borough council leader, said: “This is a great opportunity for key sectors to work together to ensure economic growth and sustainability for the town.
“The council, for example, has recently created an additional 27 apprenticeships which will provide a good starting point for some of our local residents. By working together, there is more we can do for the businesses and people of our town.”
