New gallery turns back the clock

WARRINGTON’s newest art gallery – The Best of Northern Art, in Time Square – turned back the clock to 1974 on its opening night.
Among the works on display was one by local artist Maurice Riley, inspired by Warrington’s appearance in the 1974 RL Challenge Cup Final.
The picture shows local hero Mike Nicholas breaking through from defence to score a try, with Mike Philbin in support.
Guests on the night were able to peruse a variety of work and meet local artists as well as people with learning disabilities.
There was an eclectic mix of work including pottery, jewellery, paintings and sculpture.
The pieces were all of a high standard and affordable.
A spokesperson said: “Shoppers can feel good that the unique and beautiful Christmas gift they are purchasing is locally produced and supports the development of our town centre and community.”
The Best of Northern Art is open daily. Anyone interested in volunteering or exhibiting should get in touch with [email protected] or call 01925 234 443.
