Council U-turn over Bridge Foot

WARRINGTON Borough Council is to do a U-turn over the controversial new road markings at Bridge Foot.
Senior councillors held talks with officers over recent amendments to the road markings on the Wilson Patten Street/Bridge Foot approach to the Bridge Foot roundabout.
As a result, the highways team will carry out immediate remedial works to rectify issues arising from the revised lining scheme.
The amendments will result in the three lanes at the Wilson Patten Street/Bridge Foot entry having the following designations:
*Lane 1 (short lane near Lower Bridge Street) – A49N (A57)
*Lane 2 Retail Park and A5061 (Knutsford Road)
*Lane 3 A49 (S) Wilderspool Causeway and A5060 Chester Road.
A council spokeswoman said: “These changes will be implemented as soon as possible.
“The council would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any confusion and inconvenience caused to the travelling public. Motorists are asked to be aware whilst familiarising themselves with the amended road layout.”
The new markings were introduced unannounced last month and caused confusion among motorists.
A number of “near accidents” were reported by angry drivers.

  1. Who is going to pay financially for the original cackhanded decision to mess about with the road markings etc? How much did the original muck up cost and how much will it cost to put everything right? It is great to hear that at last our elected members (so I read in another place) have started to earn their corn and their apologies are welcome but we need to be told the detail.

  2. We will still be no better off. GO BACK TO HOW IT WAS . It is so ease to get into Warrington but boy try to get out……………..

Why does the council have to keep messing things up. If they want something to do they should start by cleaning all the grids out that they haven’t touched for years then we might not have so much flooding in the area.

  3. Well that won’t be happening with UK employment legislation being what it is. My guess is this matter has come about as a result of a good old fashioned cock-up, with the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing, or maybe the right hand doing its own thing.
