Town bow out of FA Cup

NINE man Warrington Town bowed out of the FA Cup with an extra time defeat against Ossett Town.
The second red, for midfielder Peter Dogan, came after a controversial second goal in the first half of the extra period prompted an angry reaction from the home players, with manager Shaun Reid also dismissed from the touchline.
Town had already lost midfielder Scott Metcalfe to two yellow cards in quick succession on the hour mark, but stood firm and were arguably the better side with 10 men.
It was from a Metcalfe cross that the hosts took an eighth minute lead. He ran on to a quick throw from Ciaran Kilheeney which left the Ossett defence on their heels, and Chris Gahgan was on the end of it to fire home.
There wasn’t much action in either penalty area until the half hour mark, when the visitors equalised. Striker Christopher Wood was able to turn James McCarten out wide, and ran along the byline before squeezing the ball past Josh Cook and in to the far corner.
Warrington, going in to the game on the back of a 10 match unbeaten run, looked flat, and were fortunate not to fall behind when James Eyles snuck in round the back, and watched on as David Mannix’s clearance ricocheted off Craig Robinson and back off the cross bar.
Metcalfe then picked up two yellows in the space of a few minutes. The first was given for a slide tackle on full-back Steven Jeff, and then shortly after, he saw red for an off the ball incident as Ossett waited to take the corner.
But this seemed to spur Warrington in to action, and they took the game to the Yorkshiremen. Liam Dawson, on at half time for Kilheeney, worked tirelessly as the lone front man, and saw a left foot half volley blocked.
Good work in the box created another chance, but Dawson dragged his left foot shot wide, and just too far in front of Phil Mooney at the far post.
The game headed in to extra time and Mooney had a golden opportunity to give Warrington the lead, denied by the goalkeeper when one on one.
Then, moments after Craig Robinson had cleared the ball from a goalmouth scramble, came the decisive moment of the match.
A disputed corner was swung in and headed home in to the top corner by Ossett centre back Richard Patterson, much to the frustration of the home side.
Amidst the protests, Dogan was shown a second yellow, and Reid followed him to the dressing room after the referee deemed his protests excessive.
With almost 20 minutes still to play, Warrington once again rallied, and despite their two man advantage, Ossett struggled to gain a foothold in the game.
Connor Millington had a glorious chance when a bouncing ball fell to him on the edge of the box, only for his shot to fall wide of the post.
And as Town pressed and tired, Ossett secured their place in the next round with a late third, Kyle Hawthorne pouncing on a rebound after Cook failed to hold Henry Sibenge’s shot.
Ossett will now travel to Colwyn Bay in the third qualifying round.
