Hard earned point for Town

WARRINGTON Town maintained their unbeaten start to the 2012-13 season, with a hard earned point at Bamber Bridge.
Manager Shaun Reid introducing recent signing Ryan Gratton and the returning Kevin Townson into the starting line up in place of the ill Phil Mooney and the rested Lee McEvilly, who took his place on the bench.
The game, that was postponed on its original date, began slowly, but sparked into life in the ninth minute, when Town captain Peter Dogan saw his powerful drive strike the cross bar, and behind for a goal kick.
Town suffered am early setback when the lively Gratton was forced to leave the field, with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, to be replaced by McEvilly.
This setback allowed Bridge to push forward and it was their turn to hit the woodwork, striker Andy Bell seeing his shot rebound off the upright and away to safety. After these scares for both teams, the game settled down, and defences began to get on top.
Townson was next to go close, spinning his marker in the penalty area, only to drag his shot wide across the face of the Bamber Bridge goal. On the stroke of half time, Town came close to opening the scoring, John Miles finding space in the penalty area, to curl a shot beyond Bridge keeper Lee Dovey, only for centre back Matt Lawlor to be in the right place to clear it off the line.
The second half began much as the first half had ended, with both sides working hard and cancelling the other out, as an attacking force.
The best chance early on falling to Bell, who shot across the face of the Town goal, when it appeared to be easier to score. In a half of very few chances, misplaced passes and excellent defending, it was the home side who were to go close once again, a headed Adam Judge clearance was seized upon by Bridge striker Matty Kay, whose long range lob went wide of the Town goal.
Meanwhile Townson was proving a thorn in the Bridge defence, finding some space in the Bridge penalty area, to seize upon a incisive through ball, only to see his angled shot go across the face of the Bridge goal once again. The introduction of young striker James Anderson, gave Town fresh impetus going forward, but it was the home side who had the last chance of the match, with Bridge winger Steve Settle flashing a free kick across a packed penalty area and wide of the Town upright.
