A49 London Road set to close

THE stretch of A49 between Lyons Lane and Grappenhall Road will be closing after 6pm this evening for important safety checks following the sewer collapse which left a gaping hole on London Bridge.
The road will be closed until further notice so inspectors can safely assess the situation and further inspect the hole in order to begin work.
United Utilities are currently on site ready to carry out their investigations.
A diversion route is currently being put in place and will be in full effect this evening. The road is expected to be closed for at least the next few days.
Work to repair the sewer and reinstate the road could take several weeks but wastewater services in the area will be unaffected.
A United Utilities spokesman said: “This is a challenging engineering job due to the extent of the damage to the sewer and the difficult ground conditions.
“We expect it to take several weeks, and we will be keeping residents, motorists and local businesses informed of our progress while the work takes place.
“We’d like to reassure everyone that we will be carrying out this essential work as quickly as possible and we’d to thank them for bearing with us while it takes place.”
