Jones Stadium with winger Chris Riley grabbing a hat-trick of tries.
But Warrington had to recover from another poor start as they went 12-0 down in the opening 10 minutes in a top v bottom clash.
It took the visitors just three minutes to open the scoring after Garreth Carvell was penalised for ball stealing allowing the visitors to pile on the pressure as Brett Hodgson was trapped in goal and from the resulting set Widnes got over in the corner through Chris Dean, with Patrick Ah Van landing a difficult conversion for a 6-0 lead.
More scrappy play from the Wolves allowed Widnes to double their lead as Ben Westwood knocked on surrendering possession to the visitors, as Dave Allen strode through a huge hole in the defence to score under the sticks, with Ah Van converting the easiest of chances.
Warrington continued to gift possession giving away six penalties to nil in the opening 20 minutes.
Warrington’s first penalty eventually brought them some much needed possession as Gareth O’Brien opened up the Widnes defence to send Chris Bridge over next to the posts giving Brett Hodgson a simple conversion to make it 6-12.
The Wolves suddenly stepped up a gear and were back on level terms two minutes later as good work by Myler sent Bridge over for his second try wide out with Hodgson landing a terrific conversion to make it 12-12.
With Head of Coaching Tony Smith mustering his troops on the sidelines for some words of wisdom, Warrington hit the front on 28 minutes after some great movement from Hodgson and Ryan Atkins set up Riley, who side stepped two defenders to score a great try. Hodgson tagged on the extras to make it 18-12 at the break.
Widnes were unlucky not to get back into the game after the interval as Hanbury had a try disallowed after powering through the Wolves defence only to lose possession of the ball in the grounding.
Warrington were dealt a blow as Bridge limped off after twisting an ankle as he was held up over the line on 51 minutes going for a hat-trick of tries.
Two minutes later Warrington took control of the game as more good work by Myler opened up a tiring Widnes defence for Hodgson to burst through a gap to score and then add the extras to make it 24-12.
On 56 minutes it was game over as another sweeping move involving more good work by Myler saw Ryan Atkins squeeze in at the corner, with Hodgson landing a towering conversion from wide out to make it 30-12.
On 72 minutes young hooker Brad Dwyer scored his first senior try for the club after good work from dummy half as he twisted over from close range with Hodgson again on target.
With Myler now calling all the shots he again opened up the Widnes defence for Riley to claim his hat-trick with tries in the 76th and 79th minutes, with Hodgson failing to maintain an otherwise perfect kicking performance, as his final conversion attempt dropped just short from wide out.
The victory saw Warrington return to the top of the table as Smith rested a number of senior players including Adrian Morley, Lee Briers, Trent Waterhouse and Stefan Ratchford ahead of the trip to Catalan in the South of France on Bank Holiday Monday.
