MANAGERLESS Warrington Town lost out 2-1 in a close game at Irongate as first team coach Rick Ward and community development officer James Standing oversaw a team missing five regulars, who decided to leave the club following the sacking of manager Joey Dunn.
With Mike Duffy, Allan Collins, River Humphreys, Matty Cross and Gavin Salmon, all deciding to leave the club and Kyle Hamid suspended, a bench of youth team players provided support, with youngster Dylan Glass making his first league start for the club.
Within two minutes, Town found themselves 1-0 down after a through ball split the Warrington defence as Daniel Mahoney chipped the ball over an onrushing Pritchard to make it 1-0.
After 25 minutes, a corner from Bamber Bridge was whipped into the Town box and as they failed to clear, an unmarked Matt Mahoney fired his shot through a crowd of bodies to make it 2-0.
On the stroke of half time, Owen Roberts’ free kick hit the post as Brig went in lucky to be in the lead.
Warrington came out strong in the second half and were awarded a penlaty after seven minutes as Chris THompson was fouled inside the penalty area. Dale Wright stepped up to take the kick which was saved by Brig’s Lee Dovey.
Wright and Heald both had the chance to claw a goal back but it was from a Robert’s set piece that was give Warrington a lifeline. A free kick out on the right hand side was drifted into the Brig penalty box and a strong header
from Rob Hardwick found the back of the net.
Chris Thompson, Hardwick and Wright all went close to giving Warrington a much deserved point but it wasn’t to be.
