Town extend unbeaten run

WARRINGTON Town extended their unbeaten run to 11 games with a hard earned 1-1 draw at in form Mossley.
Town made only one change from previous games, welcoming back striker Chris Thompson, who returned to the side after suspension, replacing Rob Hardwick in attack.
Town started the game quickest of the two teams and almost took the lead in the very first minute when Thompson failed to connect cleanly with left back Louis Corrigan’s excellent curling cross, the ball coming out to right back Mike Duffy, who saw his cross finished by striker Gavin Salmon (pictured above), to give Town the lead after a mere 62 seconds. The home side went close to equalising less than a minute later, when midfilelder Chris Rowney shot straight at Paul Pritchard in the Town goal.
The home side went close soon after when midfielder Kristian Dennis’ powerful free kick forced a fine low save from Pritchard. After the breathless start to the game, the match settled down into a game of few clear cut chances from either side. Town went close to extending their lead when Salmon was put through on goal by industrious midfielder Sam Finley, only to be denied by Mossley goalkeeper, Peter Collinge who was smartly off his line to deal with the danger.
The home side equalised after 27 minutes, when midfielder Rowney produced a glancing header to head home off the inside of the post. With torrential rain, and strong winds battering the playing surface, chances became at a premium, however, Town should have gone into the break ahead, when, on the stroke of half time, Chris Gahgan capitalised on good work by Salmon in the Mossley penalty area, picking up a loose ball, only to blast over the bar from six yards with only Collinge to beat.
With the conditions getting worse, the second half continued in the same vain as the first half, Town had control of the majority of the game, but chances continued to be at a premium. Town almost took the lead just after the hour mark, when Chris Thompson was denied by the home defence just as he was about to shoot after a pull back from Finley. The home side had their best spell of the game with a third of the half left, but a combination of good defending, particularly from central defensive pairing Tom Hardwick and Mike Tomlinson, and some poor last passes, made sure that the scores stayed level.
Town went close to winning the game late on, but midfielder Adam Wade saw his shot go too close to Collinge, and the two form sides of the division, had to settle for a point.
