- Village centre safety hazard
by David Skentelbery
WORRIED councillors at Lymm are pressing for urgent action to remove a safety hazard.
The old "Ironing Bored" building in Bridgewater Street has been removed, because it was in a dangerous condition.
But it's removal has created another hazard - a sheer drop into a stream at the rear of the site.
The parish council has approached site owners Peel Holdings asking for a fence to be erected to make the site safe.
Councillors are also to ask Peel Holdings to install vandal resistant lighting along the Bridgewater Canal between Bridgewater Street and New Road.
Existing lights have been repeatedly smashed by vandals.

We were told that the existing lights were "vandal proof" when thousands and thousands were spent installing them. They worked for about a fortnight. Since then, we've had calls for loads more money to be spent on CCTV - just to monitor these "vandal proof" lights. You couldn't make it up!
