A £9.5 million affordable homes development is underway at Warrington as a result of a new partnership between a housing association and the borough council.
More than 90 homes will be built on Thelwall Lane, Latchford by St Helens-based Helena Partnerships.
Two, three and four-bedroom homes and two-bed apartments will be available for rent, shared equity and shared ownership, bringing a range affordable home ownership options to local people, including first time buyers and those who want to get onto the property ladder.
Helena has been selected by the borough council as a preferred development partner and is now a member of the Warrington Housing Development Partnership.The scheme is being delivered in partnership with Lymm-based Mulbury Homes. Site work has already started and the first phase of 40 homes is due to be completed by next November.
It is Helena's first development outside the borough of St Helens.
Steve Moore, executive director of business development at Helena Partnerships said: "Helena is passionate about creating quality homes and building strong and vibrant communities, and we will be bringing these values and aspirations with us to our Thelwall Lane development.
"The homes we are building will contribute to giving local people an opportunity to enjoy affordable homes in a popular area, and we are thrilled to have been selected as a development partner in Warrington.
"During this project we will be working with a selection of experienced and specialised organisations and partners from within the local and surrounding area."
Cllr David Keane, executive member for environment and public protection at Warrington Borough Council, said: "This new development has provided a great regeneration opportunity in the Latchford area and will help meet the housing needs of local people.
"We look forward to continuing to work with Helena Partnerships on this exciting affordable housing development."

This announcement must be good news for Warrington, and for those looking to buy their own homes. Wouldn't it be better to wait and see what is planned by the Helena Partnership, than damning it before a spade has been dug ? I have no connection with the Helena Partnership whatsoever. But I can say they have created some very good and well appreciated schemes which have helped many many young and old couples in the Northwest. If this scheme matches their previous efforts it will be an asset for Warrington, not a just another inconvenience. It will also bring some much needed employment into the area, if only whilst the scheme is being built.

What about bringing the "empty" properties back into use for those people who are on the waiting list? Surely this would be a more efficient use of resources than simply letting them fall down and then clearing the site.

Karl, good idea or not, the traffic IS a problem and will become bigger. Have you any idea the number of new apartments/flats that have sprung up around Latchford in the last few years? And the cars from these and others in Lymm and St.Heath etc will travel down the two roads to converge on Bridge Foot. Not a promising thought.

An unpromising thought or not, we read daily of hardworking couples having to leap through hoops so as to save up so much more than you or I in order to put a deposit down on their first home, if they can actually persuade our nationalized banks to lend to them instead of paying another unquantified bonus to their already overpaid directors. Traffic is a big problem almost everywhere in Warrington, and a few other places as well.
