WARRINGTON’S third annual English Half Marathon produced a unique hat-trick for the town – with Warrington runners coming first, second and third for the first time!
Daniel Cliff, aged 20, from Chester Road, Warrington, who runs with Liverpool Harriers, was first across the line in one hour nine minutes, closely followed by Mark Rushbrook, aged 30, from Grappenhall and Stephen Broadhurst, aged 23, who was running on behalf of St Rocco’s Hospice.
Louise Blizzard from Fearnhead ensured it was an extra special day for Warrington as she was the first woman to cross the finishing line in a time of one hour 22 minutes.
An estimated 2,000 runners took to the streets of Warrington for the event which was sponsored by Cheshire Spire Hospital for the first time.
It provided an opportunity for various organisations including St Rocco’s, Warrington Home Start and the Wolves Foundation, to name but a few, to raise much needed funds for their causes.
Every runner had a special story to tell including locla hair dresser Stuart Callaghan, who was joined by his brother Matthew, who flew half way around the world from Australia to take part in the event!
