Shambolic Town lose to newcomers

A “SHAMBOLIC” performance from Warrington Town saw them crash 2-5 at home to league newcomers Farsley FC.
The visitors took the lead within two minutes of the start and things went from bad to worse for Warrington as keeper Paul Pritchard, who was injured following the opening goal, limped off.
With no specialist keeper on the bench, River Humphreys took over between the sticks. Within a minute, Town were level, when Chris Thompson saw his shot take a deflection and beat Tom Morgan in the Farsley goal. With Town being without a recognised goalkeeper, the visitors began to push forward looking for more goals, and in the 23rd minute, their second goal arrived, midfielder Ryan Watson got on the end of a cross to slam home beyond Humphreys into the roof of the net.
Just two minutes later, Humphreys kept the deficit at one, palming away a cross from under his cross bar, under pressure from Grant. Town continued to attack, looking to get back into the game, Chris Gahgan being denied by Morgan, who was out quickly to deny the livewire striker, before Thompson headed straight at Morgan after peeling off his marker from an excellent Adam Carden corner. On the stroke of half time, Farsley went further ahead, midfielder Stephen Mallory blasted home from outside of the penalty area
The second half started as the first half had ended, with the visitors in control of the game and seven minutes into the half, the visitors made it four, Watson added to his and Farsley’s total, when he too, drove home from outside of the penalty area, leaving Humphreys with no chance.
Two minutes later, Farsley almost made it five, midfielder Mark Betts saw his shot smack off the underside of the bar. Town took advantage of the let off, with Mike Duffy producing arguably the goal of the game, cutting in from the right, before exchanging a 1-2 and curling a fantastic effort into the far corner beyond Morgan.
Within a minute, the gap between the sides was back to three, Grant being given time and space to bear down on Humphreys goal before coolly beating the stand in custodian. Farsley almost made it six, only Mike Duffy’s excellent block on the line from striker Ben Jones’ effort. Town substitute Anthony Hickey had the last two chances of the game, and on both occasions, his long range shots produced fine saves from Morgan, the second of which came from a deflected free kick
Manager Joey Dunn described the performance as “shambolic” after the game and now faces an uphill struggle to lift the team for a difficult trip to Skelmersdale on Tuesday evening.
With Pritchard unlikely to be fit after leaving the ground to go to hospital for an x-ray on his injured ankle, Dunn will need to find a replacement keeper, although he will be able to call upon the services of midfielder Sam Finlay, who has now completed a three match ban picked up in pre-season.

Pictures show River Humphreys taking over from the injured Paul Pritchard and goal scorer Mike Duffy.
