Warrington Town suffered their first defeat of pre-season going down 2-1 to Evo-Stik Premier Division new boys, Hednesford Town.
The visitors fell behind after just 8 minutes when Hednesford striker Mark Danks game the pitmen the lead from just 6 yards out after Warrington were slow to clear the danger from a corner.
Following a quickly taken free kick Sam Finlay drew Warrington level on 24 minutes as he rounded Crane in the Hednesford goal, as the sides went in all square at the break.
With 11 minutes remaining, Hednesford grabbed a winner with Wellecomme’s lob over the stranded Paul Pritchard, giving the home side the lead once again.
Warrington had a goal from substisture Jamie Henders disallowed for offside in the closing stages as Joey Dunn’s men slipped to their first loss of the campaign.
Despite the defeat Dunn was upbeat about the performance which he described as “good run out against a good team.”
The game was attached by more than 600 fans, including a vocal following from Warrington, as Hednesford used the game to promote their new kit launch.
Warrington’s next outing is a trip to Northern Ireland to defend the Peace Cup against Crewe United next Saturday kick off 7pm.
They have also provisionally arranged a home game with Moore United a week on Tuesday to test out the pitch at Cantilever Park following extensive works during the close season.
