Electric van will save £1,700

AS part of its work to reduce air pollution, Warrington Borough Council has acquired a new all-electric van for its courier service – which could save £1,700 a year.
The van is completely powered by electricity, using no petrol or diesel, so it does not produce any emissions or contribute to traffic pollution.
Although this type of electric van has a limited mileage before it needs recharging, it is perfect for the council’s courier service to use for its delivery rounds. The council used a Government grant to buy the van.
It will be charged at a newly installed charging point at the Town Hall, where the electricity is monitored to assess costs over time. It is estimated that the new van, which replaces a diesel vehicle, will save about £1,700 annually in fuel costs, as well as over 1.5 tonnes of carbon.
Cllr Linda Dirir, executive member for highways, transportation and climate change, said: “The addition of this electric van to the council’s fleet is a step in the right direction towards reducing air pollution. This initiative is just one small part of our wider strategy aimed at tackling climate change.”

  1. Did the grant cover the whole cost of it ? I didn’t know they had a courier service and what do they deliver on their rounds and where too ??? It’s rather cute though eh and here’s hoping it doesn’t get stuck in a big slow moving traffic jam… duracell anyone 🙂

  2. One van, one driver, established and regular courier round. Why do we also need to employ a “team leader ” for the courier service? In those shoes she doesn’t look like she often helps load and unload the thing! Eliminate her post and we’d save far more than just £1700 a year.

  3. Nice to see that the council are actually trying to save some money, rather than spending all of our taxes on unnecessary items that people may not use or in matter of fact never see, this actually shows some innitiative to be perfectly. By the way @Inky pete, have you ever heard of dressing up nice for photo, how prejudice are you by judging this womens work ethic on just photo, I suggest that you go and look at yourself in, before you begin to judge other people.
