WARRINGTON Wolves have welcomed neighbours Widnes Vikings back to

the big time from next season following their successful Super League

Licence application, as the Wolves also submitted their own bid document.
Wolves Chief Executive Andy Gatcliffe was one of the first to congratulate the Vikings and is looking forward to the sell out derby days at the Halliwell Jones and Stobart Stadiums.
He said: “On behalf of the board of directors here at Warrington Wolves, all coaching, playing, administration staff and all the ever-loyal fans of the club, we are absolutely delighted for Widnes Vikings in attaining Super League status. Having been aware of the effort and detail that has gone into making this successful bid they can only be congratulated. We all look forward to reinstating the local derbies, Wolves v Vikings, and what we all know will be sell-out games.”
Meanwhile Warrington submitted their application to Red Hall yesterday.
Club sponsor Today Team couriered the important application to Leeds escorted by Wolfie and the Carnegie Challenge Cup trophy.
Ralph Rimmer, Chief Operating Officer, accepted the application on behalf of the RFL on the steps of Red Hall yesterday morning.
The application submitted back in 2008 for the first licensing process saw Warrington Wolves receive A-grade status, which the club has aimed to retain this time around.
The application covers all sectors of the club’s business and is in five categories: commercial, marketing and community; facilities; finance; governance and business management; and playing strength and player performance.
Mr Gatcliffe added: “Warrington Wolves prides itself on both its on-field and off-field commitment, succeeding as a professional sports team and business, and I am confident that we will retain our A-grade status.
“With an active business plan in place looking to the future of the game within the town Warrington Wolves strives to continue providing and building on sport, health and education under one roof, and retaining its position at the heart of the borough-wide community.”
Meanwhile the successful Super League clubs will be announced on July 26.
