Major set back for play-off hopes

WARRINGTON Town’s play-off hopes suffered a major set back as they went down 3-0 at fellow contenders AFC Fylde, leaving them 10 points off the pace.
Town got off to the worst possible start with an own goal from skipper Mike Tomlinson after just one minute.
There was little to choose between the two sides for the rest of the half but Warrington went two down just before the break as they failed to clear the danger as Tom Cahill slotted the ball home.
It went from bad to worse within a minute of the re-start as Warrington’s defence again failed to clear the danger allowing Paul Jarvis to find the back of the net to make it 3-0 to the home side.
It soon became clear it was not going to be Warrington’s day as Louis Corrigan saw a penalty attempt well saved by the keeper, with Chris Gahgan racing in to head the re-bound wide.
Town bossed the rest of the game, seeing a Gavin Salmon effort ruled out for off-side and two other efforts coming back off the post.
A dazzling run from Sam Finlay also deserved better but his shot was well saved by the keeper.
The victory for Fylde saw them open up a 10 point gap between 5th and 6th, although Town do have a game in hand.
Warrington are next in action when they travel to Harrogate Railway on Thursday evening, kick of 7.45pm, followed by a home game with Radcliffe Borough on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
But they can’t afford to drop many more points if they want to keep any faint play-off hopes alive.

Pictures show Sam Finlay taking on the Fylde defence and Gavin Salmon controlling the ball.
