Free radios distributed to dementia sufferers

FREE radios were distributed to dementia sufferers and their carers by Radio Warrington as part of Dementia Awareness Week.
Station manager Steve Lewis distributed the AM radios at the monthly Dementia Café event at Asda Birchwood.
He said: “Social isolation is an increasing problem, especially with older people.
“Community radio provides local news, chat and information as well as good company for those who don’t get out as much as they used to. It is easy to lose track of what is going on around the town and Radio Warrington 1332AM has lots of local guests coming in to discuss events, projects, schemes and support groups which might be of interest to young and old alike.
“The ASDA foundation were kind enough to provide us with funding for AM radios which we are distributing to older people’s support groups. We hope they will tune us in and enjoy a wide variety of locally produced shows.”
Steve said distributing the free radios was part of an ongoing project to combat social isolation in Warrington – not only to get older people to listen to community radio but also to encourage them to take part in programmes.
Radio Warrington broadcasts on 1332AM medium wave from studios upstairs in Warrington Market.
It can also be heard on the internet or by downloading the phone app. Anyone who would like to help is urged to email [email protected], phone 01925 555110 or call in at the studio.
