Town Hall protest against Western Link

A small but colourful group of demonstrators staged a protest outside Warrington town hall last night (Monday).

Protesters, including two large yellow canary suited cheerleaders, symbolically chained to the Town Hall gate, sang and chanted whilst the full Council meeting took place.

At one stage during a rousing rendition of “Jerusalem” the Town Hall keepers were forced to close the doors to the meeting.

The group are united against the proposed Western Link bypass in its present form and against the proposed building of 24,000 new houses in the town, some of which would destroy areas of green belt.

The good spirited demonstration passed peacefully and amicably with the crowd dispersing once their message had been delivered.
