Man overcome by smoke as house blazes

A MAN was overcome by smoke early today after fire broke out in a house at Warrington.
The blaze was at a property in Worsborough Avenue, Great Sankey shortly after midnight and four fire engines from Warrington, Penketh and Widnes were sent to the scene as it was feared someone was trapped.
Smoke alarms were sounding when fire crews arrived but it quickly established that all persons had escaped from the building.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze with a hosereel jet and a covering jet was also set up. Once the fire was out a ventilation unit was used to clear dense smoke from the house.
The man affected by smoke was handed over to paramedics.
Fire crews were at the scene for about two hours.
