VIDEO: THE annual Lymm May Queen Festival was blessed with sunshine after being a washout in recent years.

The gamble of switching the event from June to May paid dividends as glorious sunshine and warm weather greeted the annual parade through the village onto the May Queen Field.

Town Crier Peter Powell, despite suffering with a knee problem, managed to lead the parade as usual.

Following the parade through the village, Jasmine Clews aged 11, a pupil at Oughtrington Primary School was crowned May Queen, while Neve Cole aged 8, from Statham Primary School was crowned Rose Queen.

May Queen Festival Chair Kath Buckley was delighted with the weather after taking the gamble of switching the event from June.

Established in 1889, the theme for this year’s event was “celebration.”

Various community groups and local schools joined in the fun as hundreds of people lined the streets to watch the colourful parade.

New Parish Cllr Anna Fradgley was joined by the Deputy Mayor of Warrington Karen Mundry at the event.
