Canal rescue drama near Thelwall Viaduct

POLICE fire and ambulance services were involved in a major rescue operation near Lymm this morning after a person was reported to be in the Manchester Ship Canal.

An air ambulance was also involved in the operation near Thelwall Viaduct.

A man was rescued alive from the canal and transferred to the air ambulance and taken to Aintree Hospital for observations.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police: ” At 10.02am today emergency services were called to the Thelwall viaduct on the M6 following reports of concern for safety.

“A man had fallen from the bridge into the water. He was pulled onto the embankment and assessed by medics. He has since been airlifted to Aintree Hospital to be assessed.

“Emergency services have left the scene.”
