THE hottest day of the year brought huge numbers of visitors to the annual Culcheth Community Day with sunscreen, hats and shades the order of the day.

Organised by the Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council this year’s event was a fun packed day for all the family. Officially opened by the Parish Council chairman, Peter Holmes the annual jamboree was a massive success for all.

The aim of the community day is to support local charities by assisting their fund-raising activities and there were many different causes with stalls, selling cakes, BBQ food and drinks, and running tombolas, lucky dips and a host of different fun ways to raise money for their respective charities.

Radio Warrington 1332 AM were on hand to provide music and announcements from their outside broadcast studio and over the road a ukulele band serenaded their audience with tunes from yesteryear. A cavebus proved very popular with the more adventurous children.

For the tots there was Kevin the clown and his balloon animals act, fairground rides, a circus workshop and a host of fun things to do. For the older children and adults, a classic car and tractor show was really well supported as was the bird of prey exhibition.

A sensational trapeze act by Above and Beyond Ariel trapeze in the main arena brought gasps from the excited crowd. A Karate display and pet show also took place in the arena.

There is something special about these community events which not only raise money for worthy causes and local businesses but are a great day out for many residents and what could be more quintessentially British than a coconut shy on the village green.
