AMATEUR Rugby League players and supporters have launched a fund to raise money for a player who was seriously injured in a match on Saturday.
Jamie Sampson was playing for Latchford Albion A against Bolton Mets when he suffered a compound fracture to both his tibia and fibula.
Team mates – and members of the opposing side – immediately started raising money for the Albion centre who is unlikely to be able to work again for some time.
As a sales representative, his income is largely commission-based.
The game at the Victoria Park was abandoned after the injury to Jamie, who landed awkwardly after an innocuous tackle.
The player was taken to Warrington Hospital where a successful operation was carried out yesterday (Sunday).
He has a lengthy rehabilitation period ahead of him
Coach Dave Yii said: “I feel for Jamie so much. He returned to the game this season after a break from the game, and was starting to find his form again.
“It was a complete freak injury but the severity is one I had not seen before.
“With Jamie not being able to work, he still has rent and bills to pay and we are doing all we can to try and assist one of our own in their time of need.
“I would like to place on record the professional assistance he received immediately after the incident from our sports therapist Kirsty Allen, and also our players who helped. The paramedics, as always were brilliant.”
Latchford Albion would also like to formally place their thanks to opposition Bolton Mets who showed a level of concern that was genuinely appreciated and, since the game, have also raised funds to assist with Jamie’s rehabilitation.
