Thought-provoking shows heading for Warrington

TWO thought-provoking shows are heading to the Pyramid this summer as part of Culture Warrington’s contemporary arts offering.
History, History, History is a groundbreaking work that uses a combination of media to cast a discerning eye over the past.
At the centre of this fascinating show is a 1950s Soviet-sponsored sports comedy that became tied to a political uprising in Budapest. This uprising left a lasting mark on world history, and writer Deborah Pearson uses the film to tell her own family’s story, and to discuss themes of immigration, suppression and personal links to historical events.
Her words form an intriguing counterpoint to the film, fusing the political, the historical and the achingly personal.
Internationally acclaimed, this work has toured ten countries across three continents, and was named one of the 10 best shows of 2017 by Publico, Portugal’s national newspaper.
With dramaturgy by British comedian Daniel Kitson, this unique work offers a poignant insight into how our lives are determined by past events, and how the split-second decisions we take can send our lives off in a completely different direction.
History, History, History is coming to Pyramid on Friday June 1, and tickets are on sale now.
Also coming to Pyramid this summer as part of the Warrington Contemporary Arts Festival is Celebration, Florida – an exceptional work exploring human emotion.
The show features two unrehearsed performers who have never met, and who know almost nothing about the show when they walk on stage, but communicate the writer’s message using pre-recorded audio and headphones.
This undeniably human work is described by creator Greg Wohead as a quietly surreal show for anyone who has ever missed anyone or anything.
Veering between reality and simulation, Celebration, Florida orbits around ideas of surrogacy; a stand-in to replace a person you miss; a re-creation of an experience you can’t stop thinking about; nostalgia for a place that never existed.
Celebration, Florida will be performed at Pyramid on Friday July 13.
