MEMBERS of Appleton Cricket Club were joined by members of the local community for a special event to prepare their Lyons Lane ground for the new cricket season.
Appleton has been selected as one of just three “showcase” clubs across the county which epitomise the spirit of NatWest Cricketforce.
England and Yorkshire bowler Liam Plunkett turned up to help volunteers, along with staff from sponsors NatWest to work on the ground.
Over a weekend, an estimated £20,000 work of volunteer time was given to help improve the ground as a place to play and watch cricket.
Club chairman Antony Hurst commented: “The time and effort of our volunteers this weekend has transformed the club. We’re well on the way to completing a new patio area for spectators and we’ve installed new fencing around most of the playing area.
“We’re grateful to all those who came to help out. The weekend has helped cement our reputation as Warrington’s friendliest cricket club.”
Appleton CC is always on the lookout for new players of all abilities. Visit appletoncheshire.play-cricket.com for more details.
