Get Your Garden Ready for Summer With These Top Tips

1

The weather has been pretty terrible lately but that shouldn’t stop you from looking forward to the warmer months and making sure that you have everything in place to make sure that you make the most of the (usually limited) good weather.

It should be getting a bit milder over the next few weeks so it will be a good time to try and spend a bit of time getting your garden or outdoor area spruced up a bit. Then when we find we get one of those unexpected sunny days, we can sit outdoors or invite people round for a BBQ without a worry.

Here are some ideas for you to consider that will help to get your outdoor area into better shape:

Tidy up – If you haven’t kept on top of the gardening or it is looking a bit untidy then this will be your first task. Clear any dead leaves away and cut back any bushes and hedges that have overgrown. If you have crawling ivy then you will want to try and control that a bit before it starts to grow into places that can cause damage.

Treating wood – The bad weather is not only miserable, it also causes a lot of damage to wood. So if you have fence panels, a wooden shed and/or decking you will probably need to give it some attention and treat the wood or give it a coat of weatherproof paint. If you have wooden doorsteps or window frames then it is also a good time to have a look at these to see if they need painting.

Grass – If you are fed up with mowing the lawn on a regular basis before it gets wildly out of control and resembles a mini jungle, then maybe you are ready for a lower maintenance solution. More and more people are turning to artificial grass to put in their garden, with affordable options and easy installation. The current designs of artificial grass also look a lot more realistic so you don’t have to look like you have a tiny astro-turf pitch in your garden! If you have kids running about and wearing down your grass then this could be your perfect solution this summer.

Shed/garage clear out – Unless you are very organised, you may well need to take a look through your outdoor storage space to see if you can clear some additional space. If you are struggling for space then you might want to try and make some for example, if you have bikes in your shed you could get a bike storage/space saving solution. It is better to create some space now rather than struggle getting things in and out of it all summer.

Garden furniture – Your garden furniture is an important part of your outdoor enjoyment, so making do with uncomfortable furniture is a bad idea. If you don’t want to spend loads of money on new furniture then you should try to make the most out of your current furniture. A new coat of paint and some new cushions won’t cost much and you will be grateful for them when it comes to spending more time outdoors in comfort.

Clothesline – Make sure that you have somewhere to hang your washing outside rather than using tumble dryers or radiators that cost you a fortune. A good washing line costs next to nothing and will help keep your energy bills right down throughout the summer. You might just need to replace some pegs and clean your washing line before you start using it again.

  1. Nice! When the house has a well-groomed lawn, it looks very beautiful. But still, I love a neat cut of grass, it looks much more neat when mowed.
